Germination – how to succeed
What you need:
2 plates or a clean plastic container
2 paper towels (e.g. Zewa, unprinted, unscented)
Water (preferably pH 5.8)
Cannabis seeds
Step-by-step instructions:
Moisten the paper:
Moisten the two paper towels; they should be damp but not dripping wet.
Place seeds:
Place the seeds a few centimeters apart on a damp cloth.
Cover it with the second damp cloth.
Cover:
Place everything on a plate and cover it with the second plate (like a shell).
Alternatively, you can place the damp wipes in a clean plastic container with a lid (but do not seal it airtight – a little air circulation is important).
Store in a warm, dark place:
Place the setup in a warm location (ideal temperature: 20–25 °C), e.g. in a cupboard or on a heating pad.
Avoid direct light.
Control:
Check regularly after 24–48 hours to see if the seeds have germinated.
Make sure the paper is always damp, but not too wet.
Plant:
As soon as the seeds show a white root (germinating root) of about 0.5–1.5 cm, you can carefully place them in soil, coconut or another medium using tweezers – root first downwards.
How long does it take for cannabis to germinate?
Usually between 1 and 5 days.
Some seeds can take up to 7 days to germinate – be patient.
Tips & how to avoid mistakes:
Do not let it dry out, but also avoid standing water.
Do not force seeds open – if they do not germinate, they may not have been viable.
Wash or disinfect hands or tweezers thoroughly before handling seeds.
